VICTORIAN VOTING.
GOVERNMENT DEFEAT LIKELY. (Received p.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. The counting of the second preference votes is being continued. The returns are coming in so slowly that so far the state of the parties is practically unaltered, but it is certain that no party will be returned with sufficient strength to enable it to govern alone. Indications are that the present Government will meet the House next month, and be defeated on "noconfidence" motion tabled by the leader of the Opposition, who will then form a government supported by unattached members. Latest results show that the Nationalists have pained a seat at the expense of Labour. At present Labour has 29 seats. Nationalists 20. Position of other parties is unaltered.
