AT HOME.

THE DUKE AND DUCHESS. GREAT CIVIC RECEPTION. AX INSPIRING SPECTACLE. The Town Hall presented a remarkable and inspiring sight last evening when the citizens of Auckland welcomed the son of the King and the Duchess of York. Great trouble had been taken with the decorations to make them worthy of the occasion and they were unique in beauty. The stage was delightful. being arranged as a glade in the New Zealand bush with a stream of water tickling down from the heights

through mossy grown banks, between stones and native plants, into a miniature lake surrounded by boulders covered with mosses and small beautiful plants. All the stage was carpeted with mosses, and ferns grew in every crevice, while a native hut stood in the background covered with ferns and with ii camp-fire burning before it, where a Maori girl plied her native crafts. The background, made >of flax and other native plants, was lit with moonlight fairy lamps and gave the final fairy touch to a very beautiful and unusual form of decoration. From the centre of the hall hung long streamers of lycopodium caught to the sides of the gallery and arranged gracefully to each pillar, beneath the gallery hung filmy baskets of ferns and around the gallery nikati palms were placed in rows and linked with fairy lights. Against each wall stood mirrors surrounded with lattice work filmed with lyeopodium and at the foot massed coloured plants were reflected in its depths. Over the door was erected an arch of lattice work also covered with filmy fern. At the head of the stairs, where the Royal guests arrived, were nikau palms and masses of delicate foliage and at the l>ottom an archway of ferns lit with fairy lights, as was all the hall. The whole lighting gave a very charming effect. The Concert Chamber was arranged as a drawing room with the stage massed with pot plants and variegated hanging plants draping the edge. Baskets of ferns lined each wall and hung from the gallery. while large vases of deep blue delphiniums stood on pedestals about the room. The guests were welcomed by the Mayor, Mr. (J. Baildon, assisted by his daughter, Mr-. A. Campbell, who was handsomely gowned in emliossed georgette shaded in gold purple and flame colours. The Royal Party. The Royal party arrived about, nine o'clock and entered to the strains of the National Anthem.
