VARIOUS CANDIDATES ANNOUNCED. NEWMARKET AND MOUNT EDEN." A large ami influential deputation comprising business people ami ratepayers of Newmarket yesterday waited on Air. Archibald Kent, with a request that lie accept nomination for the office of Mayor of the borough. Mr. Kent, who lias played a prominent part in local politics, agreed to accept nomination. Mr. E. U. Potter decided last night to agree to a request that he accept nomination for a further term as Mayor of Mount Eden. The request, which was made by the Deputy-Mayor, was unanimous. In accepting, Mr. Potter said the tax on his time was greater than was generally understood. In addition to the work of the borough Mount Eden had interested itself in other things. It had been the first mover in bringing about hydro-electricity; it had brought the water question to its present position, and it had been active in qticstions relating to transport. He recognised that local body questions were taking a wider aspect. At the request of the members, Mr. John Routly. who has been Mayor of Pukekohe for the past six years, agreed to stand for re-election. A deputation of twenty business men received the assurance, of the Mayor of Whangarei, Mr. J. K. Holmes, that he would accept nomination for a further term of office. Those who have also announced their intention of seeking election are the Deputy Mayor, Mr. W. I". Timewell. and Mr. L. J. Brake, who wa« a candidate for the mavoraltv at the last municipal poll.
