BEACH PATROLS.

I SUMNER AND NEW BRIGHTON. CITY MAY GRANT SUBSIDY. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The Canterbury head centre of the Royal life Saving Society recently asked the City Council to consider the question of subsidising the beach patrols at Sumner and New Brighton during the busy surf bathing period in January and February, as large numbers of visitors from the city are in the habit of bathing at Sumner and New Brighton. The Finance Committee recommended I at last night's meeting of the council } that the matter be referred to the in- | coming council, with a recommendation that a vote of f25 for each place be provided in the estimates for next year. The recommendation was approved.
