» — AUCTIONEERS' PRACTICE. TRANSFER OF LICENSES. i ——— (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) i GREYMOUTH, Monday. A practice among Coast auctioneers, existing for years, has been the transfer of licenses for one-day periods. James Daniel Lynch pleaded guilty at the Magistrate's Court this morning to a charge of conducting a sale without a ; license, he having had a Weatland district lieense transferred to him for one day. The minimum penalty, £10, was imposed. Mr. Meldrom, S.M., said defendant thought he was acting within his rights, but no doubt the practice was against the law. Defendant could apply to the Department for a remission, of his fine, which remission he ({he magistrate) was prepared to reeommend.
