BANKRUPT MOTOR MECHANIC.

— ■ LOSSES IN COUNTRY GARAGES. A well-attended meeting of creditors in the estate of Bernard Roberts, motor mechanic, Waihi (Mr. Clarke), was held this morning. Mr. G. N. Morris, official assignee in bankruptcy, presided. The bankrupt's schedule showed owing to unsecured creditors £429 17/6. The assets were book debts ( £2SO 12/4) estimated to produce £175, and property valued at £150, total £325, leaving a defi iency of £109 17/ G. Bankrupt stated he started business with a partner in a garage at Otorohanga in 1923. He had an accident, his eyes being burnt by sulphuric acid. He was in hospital five months, and when he came out had lost about £200 in expenses and business he was not able to attend to. He was a married man with three children, and a boy of seven had died last month. His familv often required medical attention. * which entailed expense. He left Otorohan-* and started in Waihi, where he did C a good business by working Ion" hour* He lost about £200 by a motor lorry which he made and the purchaser refused to take over. He still had the lorry, which had a good engine. He had been in business at Waihi about four years. Ho owed about £200 when he* left Otorohanga. As his landlord would not renew the lease at Waihi bankrupt sold out his business for £350, which was not what it was really worth. At present he was out of work. Mr. Morris said there was no doubt the books were inadequate. He did not think the bankrupt should go into business. It was resolved that the bankrupt's discharge be opposed pending some payment to his creditors.
