The scarcity of standing timber suitable for the market in the Taihapa district is again evidenced in the closing of a further sawmill at Hihitahi. The mill of Messrs. Gibbs and Trevor at Hihitahi closed down on Saturdav through not being able to dispose of the timber, thus leaving a further 42 men to swell the ranks of the unemploved. During the past twelve months eleven timber millers have closed down, and the timber business is gradually travelling north, where standing bush is more plentiful.
