COSTLY EDUCATION.

CHILDREN FAR FROM RAIL PARENTS FATING FOR MOTOR TRANSPORT. STATE SUBSIDY WANTED. i". r Tc>jr.i; a.— (lira Corres; .>:.<J«»ct.i HAMILTON, this d::y. The parents of Puketaha. Rototuna. Horsham Downs and Gordonton children labour under a distinct disadvantage where secondary and technical education for their children is concerned. A considerable number of children from these districts have passed from primary schools and are desirous of continuing their studies at secondary and technical schools. As some of them reside as far as 16 miles from Hamilton, and as neither river nor rail transport is available to them, their parents have had to arrange a motor service to convey them to Hamilton ami back. The weekly fare for each child is 10 '. and. as in some cases there are two or more children of secondary school age in a family, the burden falls very heavily on the parents. During the visit of the Hon. J. A. Young. Slinister of Health, to the district, on Saturday a deputation of parents waited upon him. and pointed out the disadvantage under which thev labiur. compared with other districts, such as Cambridge and Morrinsvil'e. where children are able to get free railway passes into Hamilton. The deputation asked the Minister if lie would endeavour to induce the Minister of Education to grant a subsidy for the 'motor service, as otherwise some would be compelled to deny their children the education which they desired for them. The Minister promised to see the Minister personally, and endeavour to get him to place a definite sum to the credit of a motor service, in alleviation of the burden.
