THE SCHOOL SYLLABUS.
WORK OF REVISION. SCOPE TO BE BROADENED. STRENGTHENING THE COMMITTEE. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star."! WELLINGTON, this day. A deputation representing the New Zealand Educational Institute, consisting of Mr. B. N. T. Blake (president), Mrs. Fouhy and Mr. Penlington, waited on the Minister of Education (Hon. R. AWright) with regard to the constitution or the committee which is to undertake the revision of the primary school syllabus. The deputation asked that the investigation should cover the whole of the primary school curriculum, instead of merely, as proposed, the programme of work for standards 5 and 6. They also urged that the institute should' have greater representation on the committee. The Minister agreed to accede to the request that the whole of the syllabus should be included in the scope of the inquiry, and also approved of the appointment of two additional memhers to represent the institute, and a third, if necessary. He susgostod that as the members already appointed were North Island representatives, the institute, when submitting additional names, should consider the South Island, and also appoint at least one country teacher. The Minister added that, when the personnel of the committee was announced a few days ago it was inadvontently states that Mr. W. Dinwiddie. of Nanier. was to represent the school committees. This is not the case, as Mr. A. Sando, of Wellington, is the school committee's representative, Mr. Dinwiddie being an independent member of the committee, while Mr. G. T. London was selected with Mr. T. U. Wells, of Auckland, to represent the New Zealand Education Board's Association.
