When the inquest opened last evening for the purpose of taking formal evidence of Identification of the body of. Mrs. Bridget McGinn, who was drowned in the Ashburton River during the day, her husband was placed under arrest on a charge of drunkenness. ./ / ' ~
The coroner said that' McGinn wa« so much under the influence of liquor that he would not allow him into the.morgue. It was a standing disgrace that a man should be in such a condition when coming to identify the body of his dead wife. He had asked the police to take McGinn in charge and bring ..him before the magistrate in the morning. ;•■, : V{
The ages of deceased's children range from six years to fourteen: months. Sh» was recently separated from her hueband.
When McGinn was brought before Mr. Mosley, S.M., this morning, he was remanded for a week'in custody," accused' to be allowed to attend his Wife's funeral if he so.desired. .'.'.':'
