SMAIX SHOPKEEPERS' PETITION. ."."■ EIGHT O'CLOCK CLOSING ■■■".' SUGGESTED. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Friday. Seeking the introduction of legislation altering the closing hours of email shops, 335 shopkeepers of Auckland and suburbs have petitioned Parliament through Mr A. Harris (Waitemata) stressing the i point that as most .small shops are in the suburbs they,are adversely affected by the present-hours. The petitioners, who do not employ labour outside their own families, ask that closing houre for small shops he definitely fixed by Act of Parliament. They suggest 8 o'clock as. the hour when they should cease trading. Any small shopkeeper- adversely affected by the legislation which they seek should, petitioners stipulate, have the right to appeal to a magistrate for exemption. The petition .was referred direct to the Labour Bills Committee.
