TE AWAMUTU. if^* Prior to his departure from Tβ Awamntu, to take advantage of his travelling scholarship, Mr. R. P. Anschutz, M.A., has 'een the recipient of numerous farewells and presentations. At the District High School, at which he was assistant master, Mr. Anschutz was made presentations by both the scholars and staff. On Friday evening he was the guest of the Te Awamutu Football Club at luncheon, at which he was presented with a travelling bag on behalf of the club, and also a set of gold sleeve links on behalf of the Waipa Rugby Union. A gold mounted tobacco pouch was also handed to Mr. Anschutz on behalf of the Old Boys" Football Club. Mr. Anschutz left Te Awamutu on Saturday en route for Europe, where he will continue his studies.

Saturday was set aside as Charity Day by the Waipa Rugby Union, the gate takings being devoted to a distressed family. The chief attraction was the final for the Ballistite Cup. between I'irongia and Te Awamutu seniors. The game throughout was exciting, and at half time the scores read: Te Awamutu 6, Pirongia 5. Winter kicking two penalty goals for Te Awamutn, and Beet a try, converted by Bell, for Pirongia. In the second half Winter landed another penalty goal, and then Bell scored for Pirongia. Just before the close Winter kicked his fourth penalty goal, making the final scores: Te Awamutu 12, Pirongia 8. During the game D. Wallace (Te Awamutu) had to retire with a broken collarbone.

On Xo. 2 ground Waipa and Cambridge junior reps, played a hard fought game, which resulted in a win for Cambridge by 5 points to 3. Hagen scored for Waipa, and Warren scored and converted for Cambridge. Frankton thirds defeated the Waipa thirds by 20 points to 6. The visitors proved far too heavy for the home team. KIH3KIHI. The annual meeting of parishioners of Christ Church, Kihikihi, was held on Friday evening. The* election of officers for the ensuing year resulted : —Vicar"s warden. Mr. J. R. Brown ; people's warden, Mr. F. W. Lees ; committee, Messrs. S. Armstrong. C. Lees and Otto: ladies' committee, Mesdames Goodwin, Hey and Temple, Misses Lees and Thomson. MATAMATA. The annual meeting of the Matamata A. and P. Association was held on Friday, Mr. S. Gunn presiding. The treasurer reported on a most successful year. Officers were elected as follows :—President, Mr. J. E. West; vice-presidents, Messrs. T. H. Prowse and C. D. Rollett: committee, Messrs. W. S. Ruthe, H. A. N. Blackburn, F. Hitchcock, C. G. Payze, H. Harding. A. S. Thirlwall. S. Gnnn, L. L. Cooke, F. Richmond, R. McCabe. H. Rollett, A. Bowler, W. M. Crabb, G. Johnston, J. Blythe; secretary and treasurer, Mr. B. Blennerhassett; auditor. At the monthly meeting of the Matamata ] branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union it was decided to write to the Matamata County Council drawing its attention to the proposal to form a river board, or other controlling body, to control the Waitoa River, and pointing out that unless some action is taken by those vitally concerned | the settlers along the upper reaches (Hinuera and Peria) of the stream would be saddled with liabilities for which they will get no benefit, and also be without direct representation. HAURAKI PLAINS. The policy of the dental hygiene branch of the Department of Public Health of centralising the free dental service for the children of the Hauraki Plains, under eight years of age, at the clinic provided at Xgatea, was strenuously opposed at a meeting of chairmen of the School Committee of Hauraki Plains schools held at Ngatea. The meeting had been called to make arrangements for a continual supply of patients from the outlying districts, but as the school committees frojn those districts contended that the difficulties were insurmountable, no progress was matte, and it was decided to make representations to have the dental officer visiting the outlying centres. It was resolved after prolonged discussion that the Minister of Health be written to complaining of the arrangements in connection with the clinic which it was intended to serve, and requesting that the executive officer visit Ngatea. TAURANGA. i At the monthly meeting of the Tauranga Electric Power Board, a statement presented by the secretary showed receipts for the period. April to July, £5183 2/4. and expenditure £Sl4O 6/2. The engineermanagpr (Mr. L. Mandeno) stated in his report that over 200 motors were now running and he believed that the revenue for this year would reach the sum of £13.000. Line construction in Otamarakau Valley had been cpmplPted. also a second circuit to Papamoa and low tension reticulation at Waitao and Otumoetai. Works authorised include reticulation of lower Kaimai and lan extension at Aongatete.

The annual school ball was held in the Town Hall on Friday night and was a great success. Between 200 and 300 children and about the same number of adults were present. A telegram was read at the monthly meeting of the Tauranga Hospital Board, stating that the consent of the Minister of Health had been granted for the raising of a loan of £2000 for capital pnrposes. An annual payment of £400 is to be made to a sinking fund to provide for repayment and formal resolutions were adopted providing for the issue of two debentures bearing interest at the rate of 6} per cent. In connection with a suggestion to purchase a cottage property in Pitt Street at present occupied by members of the nursing staff, it was decided on the motion of Mr. Brown to defer action, in order that the Board might interview Mr. B. Sladden. a member of the Land Board, and discuss the matter with him.

Tenders for the supply of furniture at Te Puke Maternity Hospital were referred to the secretary and Messrs. Grant. King and McGhie, with, power to act. It was resolved that the position of paths, etc.. be pegged off in the hospital grounds in order that trees may be planted, an offer from Mr. J. Blomquist, of 100 trees being accepted with thanks. TE PUKE. Mr. H. Diggleman. of the Tost and Telegraph Department, has been transferred to Auckland. On Friday evening a farewell social was tendered to him in McDowell's Hall, when a large number of his friends gathered and spent an enjoyable evening. Mr. Diggleman received gifts from his f>llow employees at the post office and from club friends and business associates. TAIHAPE. The Firp Brigade ball, hold in the Town Hall ou Thursday evening, was a huge success. There were well over a hundred and fifty couples present..
