LANDLORD AND TENANT.

BREACH OF THE ACT.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

WELLINGTON, Thursday.

A case based on a recent alteration in the law, by which an owner who regains possession of his house for his own use must occupy it under a penalty which may he £100 unless a magistrate's approval is' obtained, was heard in tie Magistrate's Court at Petone to-day.

A woman got possession of her house on March 15, and five days later let it to a new tenant. The evidence showed that, she had married rather suddenly, and her husband wanted to live elsewhere, but she had not gone to the court and obtained authority to do so.

In view of the circumstances the Labour Department did not press for a heavy penalty, and the fine was £2 and costs.
