SUPPORT BRITAIN.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —It behoves every one of us during the present economic crieis to find ways and means of helping the Motherland out of her industrial and financial difficulties, and what saner or more reasonable method than by adopting and acting on the slogan "Buy British Goods"? A few days ago a traveller for a German line of goods tendered mc a sample of fancy-handled, two-bladed pen knives, which were to cost mc 2}d. Tliis line in English goode could not have been produced under 10d. Why then, in the interests of the Empire generally, should not a dumping duty be imposed on such articles. I quote only one of many instances of this tremendous endeavour of the foreigner to steal the Empire's markets. We out here do not realise in just what danger England at present stands, or apparently that England's crash would mean Xew Zealand's next day. If our Government cannot or will not do something to assist the Homeland when she needs assistance, it becomes the duty of the public to insist on British-made good?, and thus, among other things, help alleviate the unemployment of which we hear so much. May I suggest, then another little slogan which might be of use to us all: "If you can't buy British, don't get &ore; delay your purchase till you can, and keep "smiling."— l am, etc', A PATRIOT.
