AARD CUP COMPETITION.

The Aard Cup competition, which is held annually, was played thin year at Kotorue. The cup was presented for competition by teams in the Bay of Plenty. The following dube took part in the contest: Rotorua, Te: Puke, Maketu, Whakatane, Paengaroa, Matata. The draw resulted In Maketu Playing Rotorua. This was a very evenly contested game' resulting in a win for Rotoruaby two to one after an extra twenty minutes play Against Te Puke Paengaroa put up a much better fight than was expected for a team of mostly new players, and they iuffered a very honourable defeat at three to nil. Matata then played Wbakatane, who had much the better of the game, but only managed to register one goal. Another hard game was Eotorua V. Te Puke It was necessary to play two extra spells before Te Puke again found the net. The final was played between Te Puke and Whakatane. This would have been a fine exhibition of hockey had both teams been fresh. The Te Puke players were obviously tired after two strenuous games and a long journey. As it was they kept the play up in the Whakatane twenty-lire for most of the flrst quarter, but for the rest of the time they had to defend, only breaking away occasionally. The game went to Whakatane with three to nil. Mr. P. P. Hockly, M.P., presented the cup to the winning team.
