AMATEUR CYCLING.

20-MILE ROAD RACE. The Manukau Amateur Cycle Club held their fourth road race of tbe season, a 20-mile event, on Saturday afternoon, In perfect weather. A total of 21 riders started. The scratch man. E. J. Blakeway. had the misfortune to meet with tyre trouble early in the race. He pluckilv continued, but with no possible hope of overhauling the field. W. McCailnm aeain fell whilst cornering, and his fall put him well ont of tbe running even though he was able to resume the journey. Tbe finish, which iras " fought out amonzst the limit men. wbr even more thrilling than that witnessed on the last occasion. C. A. Clarke', who won the last open event, managed to cross tbe line only half a wheel ahead of F. W. Jeeves, witTed Boucher close up, third. Tom Faltbfull, who finished fourth, had to make his own pace for almost tb*> whole of the journey. Results are as follow :— C. A. Clarke (7m 15s), 62m 2Ds .... 1 F. W- Jeeves (7m 15s), 62m 25 2-5s 2 Ted Boucher (7m) 3 Tom Faithfull (4m) v 4 Fastest time was registered by Les Wilson, who completed the journey In 58m 10 2-os. Second fastest went to J. Whitten. 58m 395. and third fastest to -Snowy** Baker in 50m Is. J. Whitten was delayed by a train at Mangere Crossing. This allowed Les. Wilson to almost catch him. When he was caught, these two made a merry pace, catching E. Grant (3m) at 15 miles to go, and from there on the pace was shared by these three riders, who remained together for tlie rest of tbe journey, J- Whitten finishing a length ahead of Grant in a dashing sprint. Wilson, who rode off lm 30s. is a rider who delights in the longer journeys. This is the second 20-mile event conducted by the clnb and on both occasions Wilson bas received fastest time honours. The race was ably controlled by Mr. M. P. Byrnes, who also officiated as time-keeper. The club's next event on June 19 should attract a large field. A new course will be used. The now course, which is circular and about five miles in circumference, will be much more interesting from a spectacular point of view, as competitors will pass the finishing line three times before a 15 mile journey is completed. The start and finish Till be at the Mangere Post Office, about three miles from Mangere Bridge. This will he the scene, of the professional road race nest Saturday after* .noon.
