THE LEAGUE CODE.

A DAY OF SURPRISES. POKSONBY AND CITY DEFEATED. On Saturday there was a strong counter-attraction in the Great Northern Steeplehase meeting, but notwithstanding this there ivas a very solid attendance at Carlaw Park. It was a day of surprises. Ponsonby, hitherto unbeaten this season, were downed fairly and squarely by Marist Brothers, who played their best game to date. Few expected the Tykes to score so well, but fewer still were prepared to see Devonport down City. The seasiders have been unfortunate this season, but to-day they fielded a fine team, the majority of their injured players having recovered. All through the piece they were beating City, and their win was deserved. On No. 2 ground Newton had no trouble in the second half of this match with Grafton, and won comfortably.
