OTRANTO STRANDED.
SAFE, BUT DAMAGED. SAILOR SERIOUSLY HURT. ! (Received 2.30 p.m.) ATHENS, May 12. It is officially reported that the \ steamer Otranto, engaged in a pleasure cruise, stranded at Cape Matapan. I She got off without assistance but was badly damaged, the stern suffering seriously when the ship struck the rocks with terrific force, smashing everything breakable aboard. The passengers waited for an hour wearing lifebelts, fearing that the vessel would slide off the rocks and sink, but that danger was averted. A number of passengers were slightly injured and one sailor was seriously hurt. The Otranto is now at Athents. where she is to be surveyed.— (A. and N.Z.) Cape Matapam is the southern most point of the Morea in Greece, and is extremely bold and precipitous.
