SAILING VESSELS CHARTERED.
OLIVEBANK AND G.STAV. JIALDEX ISLAND TO NEW ZEALAND. Two large barques, the Olivebank and the Gnstav. arc- to load guano at Maiden Island fur discharge at New Zealand ports. In these days of steam tonnage, the chartering of sailing ships is of interest. The Olivebank. which flies the Norwegian flag, is a four-masted steel barque nf 2524 tons gross. She was built at Port Glasgow in 1892 by Messrs. Mackie and Thomson. The Gustav is also a four-masted steel barque of approximately the same .tonnage as the 01ivr-bank. When launched at Glasgow in 1392 from the yards of Russell and Co., she was named Australia. Site is at present owned by the French Government. Particulars of the charter are not available. Situated about four degrees south of the Equator and approximately 6<>o miles north of the Society Group, Maiden Island is a British possession, being about 12 miles in length and half that distance in breadth.
