POVERTY BAY.

EXPORTS 100,000 SHEEP. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) GISBORNE, this aay. The export of sheep to the South Island rrom Poverty Bay has boon a very important feature of the present season. Had It not been Tor a very big exodus or sheep north and south, rarmers in this district would have had great difficulty in quitting .nock at anything: like a fair value. The season is particularly late In the South this year and shipments are still going forward to ArtUington. where they are now bringing , good prices In comparison with rates that are being paid in Gisborne. Export to Addlngton up to the present has been 4000 shrpp. ttir.*e including ewes, wetuers and lamb?. This is the first season In which dealers have taken much interest in shipping , wethers, and the results are not such a? will tempt them to speculate heavily in the future season.

A new departure !n Hie export business this season was the shipment of 6000 ewes to W'estfleld market. These sheep were .drawn from stations at the northern end or the coast, and wer shipped from Hicks' Bay. Earlier in the season shipments this year had been drawn rrom all parts or the district and shipped from Tokomaru Bay, Hicks' Bay and Waikokopu in addition to Glsborne.

It is estimated that close on 1 no.ooo sbeep have lert the district altogether, counting those gone overland. Waikato dealers who lost heavily on the first shipments to Addington have been making up leeway recently when prices in the South improved, while prices in this district decreased considerably. The best price ni3de so rar this season was 38/0, which was given at Addington for a line of ewes from A. B. Williams' station on the coast.
