NEW LYNN LOAN PROPOSALS.

ROADS AND DRAINAGE. LAND FOR MUNICIPAL PURPOSES. A special meeting of the New Lynn Town Board was held for the purpose of further advancing the loan proposals v.hk-h have been under consideration for several months. At the present time the total indebtedness of the district is something like £20,000. Practically the whole of this amount has heen spent on a district water supply. The population has almost doubled during the past five years, and it now appears that sanitary and domes- j tic drainage are urgently needed, espec.ally in the lower portion of the town-, ship. The board is not happily placed iv respect to its various offices, for land has never heen acquired for this purpose, the public services being housed on various private properties at a I peppercorn rental. j The members of the board are of the j opinion that it is time permanent works i were undertaken, but that this cannot j he accomplished out of current revenue. ] The various items are to be placed before the ratepayers, who will be given an opportunity to vote separately on several of the issues. Last evening the hoard adopted the following recommen- i dations: — Municipal Land.—That the hoard sub- ] mit .1 proposal to purchase from Mr. S. ! H. Todd for £900 two acres of land situated on Great North Road, for municipal purposes. Drainage.—That the board take a poll on the proposal to instal a drainage system at an estimated cost of £12,000 for the purpose of draining the area of the district between Rewa Creek, Marfan Avenue and Whau Creek, as per ]ilan prepared by Mr. W. Arthur Gray, such area to be a special rating area for the purpose. That the board ask for authority from the ratepayers to raise an amount to cover the cost of providing main sewers sufficient for a drainage system over the whole district for a population of about 10,000. Streets Improvement.—That two issues for streets .improvement be placed "before the ratepayers, as follow: (1) The construction of Totara Avenue with concrete for the full width from the Totara Avenue railway crossing to the corner of Todd Avenue, and for 18 feet wide from the corner of Todd Avenue to the concrete construction on Great North Road, and macadam construction on tho following streets: Rimu Street, Todd Avenue, Seabrook Avenue, Astlev Avenue (from Margan Avenue to Cutler's boundary), Margan Avenue, Gardner Street (from Hutchinson Avenue to Seabrook Avenue), Rata Street, Titirangi Road, Hutchinson Avenue, Matai Avenue, and the construction of footpaths in the various streets named, together with culverts and storm water drainage where required, and the grading of both sides of the roadway and the construction of footpaths along the full length of Great North Road.° (2) A comprehensive proposal providing for the macadam construction of the roadway, and for footpath construction, and provision of storm water drainage where required in the remainder of the dedicated streets in the district. If the whole of the proposals are sanctioned by the ratepayers, something like £70,000 will be required to carry out the programme.
