NOXIOUS WEEDS.
CROWN LANDS MENACE
BOARDS NOT FAVOURED.
(Prom Our Own Correspondent.) TE AWAMUTD, Monday. When a copy of t?ie recommendations of the Tarauaki Local Bodies' Association noxious weeds committee was read at to-day's meeting of Waipa County Council. Cr. McCarthy said much of the noxious weeds menace was traceable to Government lands. In the area between Pirongia and Pukeatua there was a fair sized area of Crown land that was a perfect hotbed of noxious weeds. Some ' of the land referred to had lately been ' cleaned up by men put on by the Ao-ricul-'tural Department, but the work was left till too late in the season. The chairman, Mr. Stewart Reid, M.P. said that some method of having these' lands ocupied and farmed appeared the only satisfactory method. The provisions of the Act were all right when applied by some officers, but others were at times too officious and caused trouble. Consideration of the recommendations was deferred. Councillors did not approve, of the establishment of noxious weeds boards, considering that there are enough administration boards already operative.
