PAPAKURA SPORTS.
The Papakura Athletic Club held a very successful meeting in the Prince Edward Park on Easter Monday. Although the weather was threatening at times, no rata fell during the progress of the sports. The attendance was very satisfactory; visitors being present in good numbers from Auckland, Pukekohe, Drury" and surrounding districts. It is estimated that the people on the ground numbered over 2000. Tbere were many attractions other than the sports. The Highland dancing proved exceedingly popular, as did the merry-go-rounds with the youngsters. The Papakura Town Band also played several selections, which were appreciated. The secretary (Mr. J. Rea) md the committee are to be complimented' on the very businesslike way in which the various events were got off. Practically every event started punctually, and the arrangements generally were ahead of any meeting the club nas yet undertaken
The Papakura Sheffield Handicap of 120 yards resulted in: the -first prize of £20 going "to L. Williams, G. Gardiner being second and F. G. Rowe third. The prize money in the remaining events was well split up between the various, contestants, the best performance being that of W. J. Thompson in winning the half-mile and running second in the quarter-mile. The boys' handicap (16 years and under), for which a silver cup and a gold medal were awarded, resulted in a win for P. Hunter with L. Richardson second and Erlckson third.
In the Highland dancing, M. McLauchfeSSl? M « N «"»8&t°n, Flora Dickson* and Nestor King secured most of the prizes.
