DRASTIC ACTION.
CHINESE PORTS CLOSED. CANTON CUSTOMS TROUBLE. (Received 9.30 a.m.) PEKING, February 22. The Commissioner of Customs at Canton has closed the ports of Canton and Whampoa pending the surrender and return to the Customs for proper examination and assessment of duty of all cargo irregularly removed from the custody of the Customs. It is believed that * the cargoes of five nations are involved.— (Reuter.)
