BATHERS AT DEVONPORT.
NARROW ESCAPE. i TRAINER'S PLUCKY ACTION. ■ At about a quarter to seven this morning, when several trainers were ' allowing their horsee a roll in the sand on Cheltenham Beach, a little girl of about nine years of age, who was bathing with her uncle about fifteen yards from the shore, got into difficulties. There were a number of bathers in the water, but apparently they had not noticed that the little one was in trouble until a shout from the shore drew the uncle's attention. He at once went to the girl, but getting a mouthful of water, he. too, was in difficulties. The well-known trainer, Mr. J. T. Jamieson. fully clothed, rushed to the rescue and brought the little girl and her uncle ashore. But for Mr. Jamieson's quick thinking , and prompt action a tragedy would certainly have occurred.
