THE TRIAL MATCH. COMMENT IN ENGLAND. (Received 10 a.m. , ) LONDON, December 9. The "Manchester Guardian" says that the trial match, Australia v. the Kest, suggests at first glance that Gilligau's men were defeated by a team which might have been strengthened. Certainly the English side was. very lucky, as Macartney played in none of the Tests, and Grimmett in only one. The.latter is clearly a great bowler. If lie can exploit a break on a perfect Sydney wicket, what sort of mischief will he work on English pitches. Gregory's century is a timely reminder that not only is he a fast bowler, but possibly the best all-rounder to-dfiy. — (--A. and" N.Z. Cable.) ' j
