COLLIER DECLARED "BLACK."
DETAINED AT LYTTELTON (By Telegraph.—Fre* Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Having been declared temporarily "black." the collier Kahika was unable to leave Lyttelton last evening for Oamani and Dunedin, for which ports she has a cargo of coal from Westport. The wsal was a man short in the stokehold and the Union Company made efforts in t_ afternoon to obtain a man. It is stated one man offered his services, but thai the engineer would lfot engage hhn. TliJ Seamen's Union then declared the vessel "black." it being alleged that the maa who offered had suffered victimisation.
