FATALITY AT PUTARURU.
FARMER'S SON KILLED. HORSE FALLS INTO A DITCH. (By TelegTaph.—Own Correspondent.) PUTARURU, this day. William Turle Yandle, aged 17, was the victim of a shocking fatality on Friday afternoon. When returning from his father'a slaughter-yard, he had apparently been iii the act of shutting a gate when bis horse overbalanced and rolled into a 3ft drain, falling on top of the lad, life being extinct when the upturned horse was seen struggling some hours later.
The unfortunate youth was one of the most popular young men in the township, being a member of the Anglican Church choir and the United Football Club. As a mark of sympathy all football and golf matches have been postponed. Deceased's parents are amongst the oldest and most respected settlers in Putaruru, and a distressing feature of the occurrence is that a sister of deceased was married on Wednesday last, the wedding being one of the biggest ever held in the township.
