CANTERBURY DEFEATED.
WAIRARAPA WIN BY 14 TO 12. (By Telegraph—Press- Association.) MASTERTON, Wednesday. In fine weather and on a dry ground, Wairarapa defeated the Canterbury touring tpnin by 14 points to 12. Wairarapa hud the bettor of the play, especially in the second spoil, when the homo 'forwards KUrgecl through the Southern pack and Rained many advantages for their backs. The latter operated consistently and only the resolute defence of the Canterbury backs kept the score down. Canterbury's combination was faulty, and mishandling cost them several points in toe- first-spell. In the second session, when the Wairarapa forwards took . charge. Canterbury lost their commanding lead and were unable to retrieve their position. Nixon placed the visitors six points up with two splendid penalty goals. Then Ford, with a beautiful dummy, scored in the corner. Garland scored for Wairarapa and F. Booth converted. The score at halftime was 9 points to B. A runaway try by Talbot early in the second spell put the -visitors-further ahead, but the Wairarapa team rose brilliantly to the occasion and tries by Cundy, F. Booth and li. Booth, the last shortly before time, gained a wellmerited -victory.
