HOUSING TRAMCARS.
GAUNT STREET DEPOT. PONSOXBY DEPOT TO CLOSE. An interesting item in the report of the Tramways Committee, presented to the City Council last evening, was a recommendation that work involving an estimated expenditure of £74506 should be proceeded with at once. Of the total amount it is estimated that £GC,860 will be the cost of adding two bays to the Gaunt Street depot and extending the garage to accommodate 126 cars, which will be large enough to permit the closing of the Ponsonby depot. A connecting track, including two-way junctions, is estimated to cost £8100.
The recommendations were adopted by the Council.
