NEARING THE END.

COMPETITIONS FESTIVAL. RESULT OF CHOIR CONTEST. A BETTER ATTENDANCE. « To-day is the seventh day of the Auckland Competitions Society's first annual festival. To-morrow, the final section's will bo decided, and on Saturday afternoon and evening demonstration concerts will be given by the winners of the various classes. There was an improvement shown yesterday in the attendances, the choirs being the chief attractions. In the afternoon, the junior choirs were heard, and in the evening Mr. Tempie White, the judge, gave his decision in the senior section, for which there- were three entries. Bpth junior and senior sections gave most creditable performances, and earned the congratulations of the judge. The public was more largely represented in the evening than in the afternoon, but the day's patronage' was larger than that of last Saturday afternoon, when a similar class "was heard. This evening the judges will decide the following classes: Finals for the contralto solo, and the sacred solo for gentlemen; piano solo (under 12); action song (under 12); test recitation for gentlemen; vocal trio for ladies and the finals for the sailors' hornpipe (under 15), and the scan truibhais (under 15). Mr. Eric Bell's Drawing Room Entertainment party will be an added attraction. To-morrow morning will be occupied with the champion solo for ladies, while in the afternoon there will be taken the bass solo for which the test piece is "The Song of Hybrias, the Cretan"; the open violin solo, "Legende," by Wieniawski, the recitation for standard V. boys, the dance duo (under 11), and the sailors' hornpipe (under 11). The character dance (under 15) which was to have taken place on Saturday morning, will now be held to-morrow afternoon. In the recitation for standard 11. girls, held yesterday, Miss Beryl J. Dickson competed, although she belonged to a junior standard. Her performance was, however, so good, that the judge suggested that the executive should award her a special prize. A special medal was donated anonymously by Borne person who was present at last evening's session for Miss Dickson. Yesterday's results were:— Choir Contest. (Mixed Voices.) Dominion Road Methodist Church.. 1 Kingsland Trinity Methodist Church 2 St. Matthew's Church Choir 3 The winners scored 153 points out of a possible 200, and the second choir were two points behind.
