NORTHCOTE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary'meeting, of the Northcote •Borough Council'was held last evening. The Mayor, Mr. C. A. Deuxberry,; presided, and Councillors J. B. Tonar.-Fred, L. Maxwell, E. W. B. Herrfck.A. H. Shutes, A. JLennon, Chas. A. Clark, A. W. Smith and J. F. Jackson were also present.
waterworks engineer, Mfc John Williamson, Intimated that the quantity of. water used for the month wa» 1,768,000 gallons, and that the surface or Lake Takapuna was 4ft em above high tide level, the same as. a month ago.
Main Highway.—The following communication, received-from the chairman of the Main Highways Board, Mr. F. W. Furkert, was forwarded by Mr. A. Harris, M.P.:— •'lf have.to advise that the question of allowing the borough a subsidy towards the cost of maintenance of the main road through Northcote, was considered by the Main Highways Board at its meeting last week, but the board regrets, in view of the fact that it Is not a continuation of a main highway, being unable to allow any assistance.'/ ... ...•'••'•■■
Wharf.—The secretary of the Auckland 'Harbour Board intimated that the spaces between the deck planks on the- Northcote wharf would be filled with battens and the surface generally Improved.- The Mayor ivas. empowered ,to make further representations for more adequate improvements.
Wharf Approach.—The filling at the wharf approach slip Is to be covered wltn ash. and the fence put back. • Trees and roses are to be planted on the eastern bank. The removal of the wooden ranlng opposite Alma Street was also decided upon, Messrs. Smith and Shutes dissenting. ■Traffic Licenses. —A communication from the Newmarket Borough Council advocating that traffic license fees should be apportioned on a valuation basis, instead' of that of population, was referred to the Finance Committee. .
