LARRIKINISM IN NEWTON.
DISTURBANCE IN A THEATRE.
MAGISTRATE ADVOCATES PATROLS.
At the Juvenile Court this morning five youths appeared, all pleading guilty to charges of disturbing the audience of the King's Theatre. Newton, on the night of June 22 last.
Evidence was given as to a melee which took place in the theatre. This was caused by one of the five refusing to vacate a seat. A fight between two
youths ensued, and when the usher ejected, one of them a free fight took place in the vestibule.
One boy was discharged, while in the cases of the other four they were ordered to be under the supervision of the juvenile probation officer for one year. Mr. Hunt warned them all not to go near a picture show for six months. "The whole trouble is that these boys get too much money and not enough work. Let them go to a night school and learn something. There is far too much larrikmism up in Karangahape Road. What is wanted is a couple of men to patrol the street and keep these young fellows in order."
