THE UNEMPLOYED.
LABOUR DEPARTMENT'S LIST.
The average number of men seeking eemployment at the local office of the Labour Department runs to about 200, and to-day the total was 193. Of tha applicants 159 are classed as fit for heavy and 34 for light work, and they include 59 labourers, 14 clerks, 13 gardeners and handymen, 11 cooks and hotel workers, 11 motor drivers, 11 seamen and firemen, and 10 factory hands, these being the particular occupations to touch, double figures. Since Monday last the Department has placed in private employment 12 farmhands, 17 labourers, three buslrmen, a clerk, a handyman, a kitchenman, and a. motor driver.
The number of unemployed in Christchurch, says a Press Association telegram, has fallen from 280 to 164.
