HOSPITABLE PEOPLE.
A VISITOR'S GRATITUDE. BUT THE ROADS !
In expressing to a reporter the pleasure he found ir. his visits to the Waitomo Caves, Wairakei, and Kotorua, Mr. V. Flood Nagle. a, visitor from Albury, New South Wales, who has been travelling with Mr. W. .T. Russell, the salvage expert from London, had many complimentary things to say about the hospitable nature of all the different people with whom he came in contact.
"Everywhere we went we were treated with the greatest courtesy," said Mr. Nagle. "Boardinghouse-keepers, post office and railway officials, and the people generally were all anxious to assist us. This made a wonderful difference to our tour, and we will not forget it.
"But your country Toads—" continued Mr. Nagle, changing tone. "We motored on many of them round Waitomo and the thermal district and suffered for it." He added that the foundations of the roads were sound, but that the surfaces were not maintained.
Mr. Nagle left with Mr. Russell on the Niagara to-day.
