OBITUARY.
MAHARAJAH OF GWALIOR. PARIS. June G. The death has occurred of his Highness the Maharajah Sindhia. of Gwalior, aged 49.— (Reuter). The Maharajah was born on October 20, 1870. In 1898 he was made an.honorary colonel in the British Army. In 1901, as major-general, he went to China as orderly officer to General Gaslee. He provided the expedition with a hospital ship. In 1914 the Maharajah organised the hospital ship Loyalty and financed it for the duration of the war. His troops fought with distinction in France. East Africa. Egypt nnd Mesopotamia. He was granted a salute of 21 guns at the 1911 Durbar, and the salute was made hereditary in 1917. He was awarded various medals, including those of the London coronations of 1902 and 1911. aud the Delhi coronation medals of 1903 and 1911. Tbe late Maharajah's heir is George Jivaji Rao. born in June, 1916, to whom King George stood sponsor. His Highness was taken seriously ill in Paris on May 21. Lord Dawson, the King's physician, was summoned from England, and went to Paris by aeroplane. He decided that an operation should be performed immediately.
