BLACKBLOCK SCHOOLS.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —I have read with very great interest the article in your paper on "Backblock Schools." As an ex-back-block teacher the value of Mr. Garrard's scheme is fully appreciated, and it i.s quite certain that all backblock and ex-baekblock teachers will unite in passing a very hearty vote' of thanks to the Chief Inspector for his promulgation of such an uplift to those who so much need help and encouragement. The article delineates as clearly as possible in such a short space some of the difticulties the teacher in the backblocks has to contend with, and in inaugurating this scheme Mr. fiarrard has added the coping stone to his deservedly hi£h reputation as an inspector who has the welfare of the teacher as well as the children at heart. Thanks are also flue to the head masters for undertaking this extra work, which means a very great addition to their multifarious duties.—l am, etc., E. B. AKRXEY.
