SOCCER DISPUTES.

AUCKLAND V. CANTERBURY, i I i' POVERTY BAY INCIDENT. | I (By Telegraph.—Press Association.! WELLINGTON, this day. At a meeting of the Raw Zealand Football Association last night a letter from the Auckland Association stated that Canterbury did not get permission from the Council prior to receiving the Auckland wire not to play at Manawatu. Auckland was giving a guarantee and claimed to have the right to decido whether Canterbury should play on the way to Auckland, and the permission of the Council or not made no difference. Canterbury took the risk of a protest and the withdrawal of the guarantee and must take the consequences. The same principle was involved as when the Council refused to allow the Chinese to play in Australia before arriving in the Dominion, and Australia refused to allow the Canadians to play in New Zealand before reaching Australia. '. Mr. B. L. Salmon said the cases were not parallel. If a Chinese player had been injured in Sydney it would have been impossible to replace him. Mr. Hyde thought Auckland should be made to understand' that the New Zealand Football Association was the controlling body and not Auckland. It was decided to reply to Auckland that a contract was made'that Auckland should pay Canterbury a £75 guarantee and that action in the overseas cases was not parallel. The Poverty Bay Association asked for a ruling regarding the disqualification of players who refused to honour the toast of "The King, ,, and were very abusive at a certain function. Members of the Council unanimously agreed that some steps should be taken but were not sure of the legal position. Some thought the disqualification quite in order. A legal opinion is to be obtained.
