MOTORING MATTERS.

CITY PARKING AREA. TRAFFIC OX EAST COAST ROAD I Mr. J. Warnock presided over the' meeting of the council of the Auckland Automobile Association, held last evening, i The newly formed Waitemata branch of the association wrote suggesting that the parent body should take a tally of the traffic on Massey Road and the East Coast Road, with the object of having the latter road declared a main highway or a secondary road. Mr. M. H. Wynyard. motorists' representative on the Main Highways Board, said that the board had been influenced by several considerations in declaring Massey Road a main highway. The East Coast Road was impossible for a main highway owing to the present grades on j the Waiwera Hill. j After a discussion it was resolved to comply with the Waitemata branch's request for a tally to be taken. i The report of the secretary, that under the existing by-laws there was no objection to the parking of cars on the street recently reformed on the civic square site between Elliott and Cook Street, and that an officer be appointed to take charge of the cars parked there, was, adopted. The North Island Motor Union forwarded a letter favouring the principle of different letters on number plates for different districts. It was decided to send a repjy stating that the association was reasonably eatisfied with, the present system, and to ask the secretary to submit samples of the suggested transfers by each association for members to paste on windscreens. The Council decided to give another outing to the inmates of the Auckland Infirmary this year. The secretary was instructed to make arrangements for a series of lectures to be given during the winter months for the benefit of new members.
