WILLIAMS MEMORIAL CHURCH.

FOUNDATION STONE LAID. CEREMONY AT PAIHIA. (By Telc?rnph.—Press Association.) WHANGAREI, this day. The foundation stone of the Williams Memorial Church, at Paihia, Bay of Islands, was laid yesterday by Mr. Sydney Williams, tlie oldest surviving member of the Williams family in the Dominion, Bishop Averill, Primate Elect, conducting the consecration service. The church is being erected by the descendants of Archdeacon Henry Williams, and Bishop William Williams, who settled at Paihia in 1823, and for many years conducted a mission among the Maoris. The memorial also includes a trust established by the family, to provide for a clergyman to work among the Maoris in the Bay of Islands. Yesterday's ceremony was attended by •seven grandsons of the missionaries, and other members of the family, and there was a large gathering of residents of the district and visitors. Addresses were given by Mr. Sydney Williams, Bishop Averill, and Canon Keretene, missioner to the Maoris. The church is to be a handsome stone building.
