ACCIDENT IN SYMONDS STREET.

CYCLE AND WAGON COLLIDE. COMPOUND FRACTURE OF THE LEG. A married man, Mr. John D. Biroh, "27, of the City Valuation Department, sustained serious injuries through colliding with a large wagon, owned by Winstones, Ltd., at the top of Symonds Street yesterday afternoon. Mr. Birch was returning from his home in St. Leonard's Road, Mt. Eden, on his motor cycle, and was struck by the wagon α-s it swung round from behind a tramcar. His right leg received the full force of the impact with a steel spring, and the injured man was carried into an adjacent shop, where Dr. de Clive Lowe placed the injured limb in splints and removed him to his home. Examination made revealed the fact that Mr. BiTch had suffered a compound fracture of the- leg below the knee. The same leg had been previously broken some years' a.go through.a 'fall'from a horse. Mr. Birch was afterwards removed to a private hospital, where Dr. Lowe set the fractured leg. His condition to-day was reported to foe quite satisfactory.
