HUSBAND ALSO DISAPPEARS.

THE POLICE GO DIGGING. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The mystery concerning the disappearance of Mrs. Ellen Louise Mouat, who was missed from her home in Beckford Road, St. Martin's, on February 20, has been heightened by the disappearance of her husband, F. P. Mouat.

Mouat was seen in the city on Monday afternoon, but since then he has not been heard of.

Yesterday a party of police officers dug over a large portion of Mouat's residence, which isa new bungalow, set in neat surroundings. The police also were seen dragging in Heathcote River during the day. Developments are expected.

To-day a large party of police under Superintendent McKinnon are searching the country round St. Martins, one detective using a spade and another a spike to test' the ground.

In Borne quarters it is believed that both the man. and woman are alive. They have been married fifteen years. For some time Mouat kept an hotel in South Canterbury. Prior to that he was an engineer in Johannesburg.
