FIREMEN DELAY MANUKA. INJURY TO STOKEHOLD HANI). TROUBLE IN ADELAIDE. 'By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) SYDNEY, February 4. The Manuka was due to sail from Melbourne for the Bluff at 11 a.m. today, but she was delayed owing to the absence of two firemen. These men returned at about 3 pjn., and preparations were then made to sail. However, as the gangway ropes were being loosened a fireman appeared on deck badly gashed about the head. Three other firemen took him to the hospital, and the vessel was again shorthanded. The remaining firemen said they would not sail without a full complement, and the ship had to be tied up. The Manuka sailed at 5 p.m. 1 houhle has arisen on the steamer Koromiko, at Adelaide. When the vessel was at Wallaroo a fireman became ill. The remainder of the men agreed to work the vessel provided that they were paid for the extra work. This was agreed to. At Tort Adelaide another man was placed on the sick list. The firemen thereupon intimated that they would not proceed to sea again unless extra assistance waß obtained. With much difficulty two men were picked up, but the crew refused to sail unless the new hands were paid Australian rates. Thia demand was refused. The vessel is therefore held up. To add to the trouble, the Harbour Board ordered the Koromiko to be moved to another berth. T he firemen refused to raise steam and consequently the vessel had to be warped along by her mooring lines. Latest advices from Adelaide are to the effect that the Trades and Labour Council has lifted the embargo placed by it upon the Commonwealth Line's chartered vessels. The steamer MacKarra has secured a full crew, but the Koromiko is still held up.— (A. and N.Z.)
