A BORSTAL INSTITUTE.
FOR THE NORTH ISLAND. SITE NOT YET. SELECTED. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") WELLINGTON, this day. A Borstal Institute is to be established in the North Island, but bo far no site has been selected. The Minister of Justice, the Hon. C. J. Parr, discussing the matter with a "Star" representative, said that some 5000 acres of virgin country would be necessary for the, Borstal. He considered second-class land was the most suitable. Representations had been made as to various distrcts where the Borstal Institute might be established, but his own opinion was that probably the best place would be in the Auckland Province. However, the matter of site had still to be decided. There is already a Borstal Institute at Invercargill, which has given good results, in the treatment of juvenileadult prisoners, the general object of i the institution being to encourage refor- I mation of young criminals.
