YACHT'S WORLD CRUISE.

LEAVES TO-MORROW. 12-TON IRISH PACKET. One of those seekers after pleasure and j adventure who wants to see as much of the world as he can, and is not too particular how long it takes him, Captain Conor O'Brien, after spending the winter ; months at Auckland, will leave here to- ! morrow in his 12-ton Irish, cruising yacht Saiorse for the South Pacific Islands. Captain O'Brien is on a world cruise, and is making a run round the Islands with . the object of seeing , at first-hand the | much-vaunted sights of the tropical lagoons and plantations that are far a\ray from the beaten paths of the ordinary globe-trotter. He will return to Auckland early in the spring, and if present arrangements j do not mis-carry will probably say fare-! well to New Zealand some time in Sep- \ tember, homeward bound for Dublin. Lately the Saoirse has been on the slipway at Freeman's Bay, undergoing hull examination and a thorough overhaul and refit. Though so small a packet she is a staunch seaboat, and Captain O'Brien proudly boasts that he has never had to heave-to in a fair wind. As far as the weather goes he has been rather fortunate on the outward trip, but on the return voyage, which will be made by ■way of Cape Horn or Magellan Strait, it will not be surprising if some icebergs are sighted, and Captain O'Brien's allowance for the first stage of the homeward voyage, from Auckland to Rio de Janeiro, is three months, though he may, if conditions are suitable, call at Punta Arenas on the way. Captain O'Brien had a varied naval experience in the war, and went through much stirring adventure while engaged in patrol work. He has with him a sailing companion.
