SEXUAL PERVERTS.
AND FEEBLE-MINDED.
COMMITTEE OF INQUIRY.

WELLINGTON, Wednesday.
The Minister of Health has announced that a special committee has been set up to conduct an inquiry into the question of the care and treatment of the feebleminded and sexual perverts in NewZealand.
The personnel of the committee is as follows: The Kon. W. H. Triggs, M.L.C. (chairman), Dr. O. S. Elliott and Sir Donald MeGavin (elected by the Board of Health), Mr. C. E. Matthews, Undersecretary to the Department of Justice (appointed by the Minister of Justice), Mr. J. Beck, officer in charge of special schools (appointed by the Minister of Education), Dr. A. G. Paterson (appointed by the Minister of Health). The following is the order of reference:—
To inquire and report as to the necessity for special care and treatment of the feeble-minded and subnormal, and to propose the general means by which such care and treatment, if any, should be provided.
To inquire and report as to the necessity for treatment of mental degenerates, persons charged with sexual offences, and to recommend the form of treatment for various types of cases. It is understood that Dr. Truby King will probably also be a member of the committee.
