LARGE BUTTERFAT YIELD.
123.75L8 FOR APRIL.
A REMARKABLE ACHIEVEMENT,
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
MORRINSVILLE, Wednesday
Herd-testing has revealed manj remarkable results in the district, but perhaps tue most remarkable is the performance of a Jersey-cross cow owned by Mr. H. Roberts, of Morrinsv-ille, ■which gave 123.751b of butterfat for the month of April.
For this time of the year a butterfat yield of 501b for 30 days is considered particularly good, and even during the flush months over 1001b is considered exceptional. For the month of April a yield of 123.751b of fat is almost unheard of. The milk for 30 days was calculated at 16501b, the test being 7.5.
That the result is authentic has been proved beyond all doubt, for since the ordinary April test was taken it was ■checked by a responsible officer of the Morrinsville Herd-testing Association.
The cow responsible for this large yield calved on February 10. The above yield is not the largest amount of butterfat attributed to any one cow for a period of 30 days, but for the month of April it is something abnormal, and on only one occasion has this been exceeded in the Morrinsville district, and, perhaps, in the Auckland province. This was attained by a Sborthorn cow belonging to Mr. W. Hume, the amount being 124.21b of butterfat for November.
