DRAINING A RIVER BED.
IN SEARCH OF GOLD.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DDNEDIN, this day. It was recently announced that the Kawarau Gold Mining Company had come to a definite agreement in regard to the Shotover properties with the principal holder, the Sandhill Company, and now the Shotover River Claimholders' Association, representing all the other local rights, has come into line, passing a resolution to the effect that the association assured the Kawarau Company of its heartiest support in the decision to build a dam at the branches on the Upper Shotover, and will be glad to assist the effort for the furtherance of that movement between claimholders on the river and the Kawarau Company. The effect of this is that all difficulties with respect to the. Shotover section of the scheme are removed, and the Queenstown district will participate in the advantages derivable from the venture. ■ Mr. Moore, of Melbourne, who recently acquired some of the Shotover flats and set up a Keystone boring plant, has started operations, the idea being to work with the suction cutter dredge.
