BUILDERS AND LABOURERS.
INCREASED RATE OF WAGES. The Wellington builders' and generil labourers' award was filed by tie Arbitration Court on Thursday. Tbe only matters left to the Court vet* wages and the term of the award. Tttf Court was not in agreement on the •wages question, but the few vary from id to ljd per hour more than those payable under the expired awwdMr. Hiram Hunter -was of the opinion that the rates were inadequate, m view of the casual nature of the wort Following are the new rates 0! wages:— Building trade labourers engaged fl» actual construction of scaffold; So» less than 1/10J per hour; labourersassisting in erection or demolition, not less than 1/9 per hour. General labourers' rates were fi* e4 as follows: Tunnel work, 2/ per hoar; Quarry work, l/10i per hour; general labourers working, or employed at concrete work, sewer work, kerbing and channelling work, 1/9 per hour; asphalt and tar workers, 1/10 per hourThe award will remain in force for two years dating from April "24.
