SOLAR ACTIVITY.
TWO NEW GROUPS OF SUNSPOTS. Two new groups of sun-spots were observed on Friday by Mr. G. V. Hudsoiij of Karo.ri, Wellington. The groups are small, but Mr. Hudson says their appearance is ' interesting as there has been an unusually long period without sun-spots. In fact, the only group 'previously observed this year was one about a month ago. Asked what deductions he drew from this, Mr. Hudson said it looked as if the period of minimum activity in the sun had ended, but even that was a surmise. Further than that Mr. Hudson would not go, but those who believe in a connection between sun-spots and the weather, magnetic disturbances, etc., will doubtless be interested to learn of this revival of activity. New Zealand's sunspotiess summer has certainly been an unusually fine and dry one.
